Birthplace in England Research Programme

August 18, 2011

Hi All,

In September 2011, the results of the Birthplace in England Research Programme will be launched. This is an integrated programme of research designed to compare outcomes of births planned at home, in different types of midwifery units, and in hospital units with obstetric services. We are expecting to be approached by the media for a number of case studies of women who are willing to speak about their experiences of recently giving birth:

•At home
•In a stand-alone midwifery-led unit
•In an alongside midwifery-led unit
•In hospital

If you are interested in being approached about media opportunities, please fill in the form attached to this page on Babble: http://babble.nct.org.uk/info-resources/marketing-support/media-and-publicity/call-out-birthplace-study-case-studies and return it to: press@nct.org.uk. Please pass the form on to everyone who you think may be interested in being involved

If you have any questions, please contact the Press Office on: 020 8752 2404 or email press@nct.org.uk.

Many thanks

Marysia McSperrin

Reception Class Places Petition

August 7, 2011

There has been a 17% increase in the number of reception aged children living in Bristol in the past 4 years – this % is likely to increase causing further pressure on our limited school places.  Within 3 years it is predicted that Bristol will need an extra 3000 (yes 3000) reception class places in order to give each child a state school place.  The Government have given £9m to Bristol to create these 3000 places, however we need £150m to do this – a HUGE shortfall.  The petition aims to impress upon the Government the concern that Bristol parents have about the situation and to ask for the necessary funding before our children’s education suffers in the city.

The petition is aiming for 3000 signatures and can be found at  http://epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/epetition_core/view/schoolplaces

Mothers for Mothers

June 24, 2011

Mothers for Mothers is a Postnatal Illness support charity, originally part of NCT and a group of mums branched off on their own to form this successful and well established charity. We are still based in Bristol, also covering Bath and North East Somerset and South Glocestershire. All of the staff and volunteers at Mothers for Mothers have suffered from PNI and recovered, so we belive we are well positioned to assure mums who are curretly suffering that they are not alone, and they WILL get better. We offer helpline support (0117 9756006, monday – thursday 9.30 – 12.30 and 2.30 – 9pm), weekly support calls, two groups, counselling, home visits and drop-ins.

Bristol Balloon Festival

June 20, 2011
Dear all,
As you may know, this year at the Balloon Festival we will be running a ‘Baby feed & change tent’.   This will give parents the opportunity to feed and change their children in comfort and with some privacy. The festival is running from Thursday 11 August to Sunday 14 August from 6am daily to 10pm.
Here’s the link so you can see what’s on and when . . .
This tent cannot happen without your help. We are seeking volunteers throughout the period. All volunteers will be given a free parking close to the event!
If you can spare a couple of hours we would be very grateful. Ideally we are looking for 2 – 4 hour slots but if you can do more or less then we will be able to accommodate you.  Men are very welcome to volunteer and we would be particularly grateful for their help in the evenings. Please pester your partner for us!  You do not need to be an NCT member to volunteer.
Please do get in touch with me with your availability on nctvolunteersbristol@gmail.com. This is a huge commitment for the branch and we need all hands on board where possible. Grab your friends!
Best wishes
Sara

NCT launches the NCT Babychange app for iPhone

April 11, 2011

It’s an exciting week for NCT, with the launch of the charity’s first iPhone app called Babychange.

NCT Babychange makes it easier for mums, and dads, or families who are on the move or away from home, to find the nearest baby changing facility to them and view its star ratings. The app also lets parents rate the changing room so others know if it’s a good, clean changing facility to use.

NCT Babychange is free to download and launches officially tomorrow, Tuesday, and we are counting on our supporters to help us spread the word.

You can find more information about the app and how you can help on babble. Visit http://babble/news/nct-news/new-iphone-app-will-make-baby-changing-easier

Cheeky Monkeys and NNS Information…volunteers needed

April 4, 2011

Hello everyone,

I am getting in contact with you to inform you about two new volunteer opportunities:

The first one is  Cheeky Monkeys on 8th June. Cheeky Monkeys is a tea party at the Bristol Zoo, where small children will have the opportunity to have their face paint among many other fun activities. The event is about two hours and we need volunteers to sell and stap tickets, manage queues, set up and clean, distribute bananas, etc. Those wanted to participate in this event will have free entry to the zoo for the day.

The other event is the Super Nearly New Sale on 19th June at Ashton Gate Stadium. For this event we are needing a large number of volunteers. If you have participated in other NNS you will notice little changes in the way this sale is organized due to the size of the sale, and If you want to participate as a volunteer you will have the opportunity to buy staff before the doors open to members and the public.

If you are interested in taking part in any of these events or you have any question, please you don´t hesitate to contact me by e-mail  nctvolunteersbristol@gmail.com or on my mobile number 0751 237 1888.

Kind Regards
Sara
